About Blake

Blake Hedgecock took a steady academic route into real estate law. He earned a B.B.A. in Real Estate Finance from the University of North Texas in 1997. He then completed a J.D. from Texas A&M University School of Law (2000), followed by an M.S. in Real Estate Analysis at the University of North Texas in 2003. He capped his formal studies with an LL.M. in Real Estate Development from the University of Miami School of Law in 2005.

His early legal work began in private practice. He was an associate at Whitaker Chalk Swindle & Sawyer LLP in 1999. After further study he joined Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP as an associate in 2005. He became a partner at Shannon Gracey Ratliff & Miller LLP in 2010 and has continued in that role since. Alongside practice, he pursued teaching roles: adjunct professor at the University of North Texas in 2009, a lecturer at the University of Texas at Dallas in 2013, and adjunct faculty at Texas A&M University - Tarleton State University in 2015.

He has formal training in alternative dispute resolution and holds a mediation certificate from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law. That credential complements his litigation work and appellate filings. He is admitted to practice in Texas and is authorized to appear before several federal forums, including the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Federal Circuit, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court.

Colleagues describe his practice as anchored in transactional and litigation matters that touch on real estate, development and finance. His academic background in real estate finance and analysis informs contract drafting, title and land use questions, and complex deal structuring. His appellate admissions allow him to handle appeals and federal matters when cases move beyond trial courts.

Beyond the courtroom and classroom, he has balanced firm responsibilities with teaching, helping law and business students understand the intersections of finance, land use and dispute resolution. He has moved between large firm platforms and a regional firm setting, gaining experience in both multi-office practices and more locally centered litigation and transactional work.

He is a partner at Shannon Gracey Ratliff & Miller LLP, where his day-to-day work combines real estate transactions, litigation, appellate practice and mediated resolutions. His current practice focuses on real estate-related transactional and litigation matters, including appellate work and mediation.
