About Bill
Bill Powers feels at home in a courtroom. He has spent decades in and around the trial table in North Carolina, moving from law school to leadership roles in the state's plaintiff bar. The work is direct. The record shows steady advancement and a string of elected posts in a statewide advocacy organization.
Powers graduated from North Carolina State University with a B.A. in political science in 1988. He earned his Juris Doctor from Campbell University School of Law in 1992. Those academic years set the stage for a practice centered on criminal advocacy and courtroom work.
He joined Powers Law Office PA and is listed as a partner there beginning in 2017. That role followed a prominent run of service in the North Carolina Advocates for Justice. He was Vice President for Communications from 2013 to 2015, moved through the leadership ranks as President Elect for 2015–2016, served as President in 2016, and became Immediate Past President in 2017. He continues to maintain ties to the organization and its membership activities.
Beyond state bar leadership, Powers took part in forming a national group focused on impaired-driving defense. He is a founding member of the DUI Defense Lawyers Association (DUIDLA) and has been associated with that organization since 2015. His peers have also recognized his trial work through board certification. He is Board Certified as a Criminal Law Specialist in Criminal Trial Advocacy by the National Board of Legal Specialty Certification and the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
Colleagues and clients describe a lawyer who prefers the concrete measures of trial preparation and courtroom performance. He has repeatedly chosen roles that involve communication, governance and peer education, rather than confining himself to solo practice. Those choices track with his certification and his professional memberships.
Powers practices in North Carolina and centers his work on criminal cases that often require trial advocacy skills. He remains active in state-level professional organizations and in a national DUI defense association. He currently practices at Powers Law Office PA, handling criminal defense matters and trial work in North Carolina.
