About Benjamin
Benjamin Lawson built a legal career that moves from courtroom work to running his own practice. He earned a B.S. from the University of Florida in 2006, studying psychology and business management. He then attended Indiana University Bloomington, where he received his J.D. in 2009.
After law school Lawson entered private practice as an associate at Scott N. Sliwinski, PC in 2009. The following year he joined the Kankakee County State's Lawyer's Office as an Assistant State's Lawyer. That stint in the county office put him on the other side of the courtroom and gave him hands-on experience handling prosecutions and court proceedings. In 2012 he opened his own firm, serving as owner and managing lawyer of The Law Office of Benjamin R. Lawson. He has maintained that practice since.
Lawson holds memberships in several professional organizations. He joined the American Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association in 2009. He has been a member of the Chicago Bar Association since 2012. Those memberships indicate continued engagement with bar activities and legal education in Illinois and beyond.
Across public and private roles Lawson accumulated experience in litigation, client counseling and case preparation. His early associate work exposed him to private-client matters. His time in the county office added trial work, evidence handling and courtroom procedure to his skill set. Running a small firm has required him to manage case flow, supervise support staff and handle the business side of a law practice.
Observers familiar with Lawson’s path note that his career follows a familiar arc for lawyers who move from public service back into private practice. He has combined the procedural habits of a prosecutor with the client-facing responsibilities of a private attorney. That combination shapes how he approaches matters brought to his office: methodical, courtroom-aware and oriented toward resolution where possible.
Today Lawson operates The Law Office of Benjamin R. Lawson, P.C., from Illinois. He handles a mix of matters that draw on his courtroom experience and his practice management background. His current practice focuses on serving clients in Illinois state and local matters.
