About Benjamin
Benjamin Byrd trained for the law in two different corners of the Southeast. He earned a J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 2008 after completing a B.A. in history at the College of Charleston in 2003. Those years framed his early interest in courtroom work and legal research, and they set the stage for a steady career in Virginia’s legal community.
He began his professional practice in 2008 at Gentry Locke, where he worked as a lawyer. That role introduced him to the routines of firm practice: managing client files, preparing pleadings and appearing in court. In 2019 he moved to Strickland, Diviney, Segura & Byrd. The change marked a new chapter in his practice and placed him where he continues to work today.
Byrd is admitted to practice in Virginia and maintains an active presence in local professional circles. He is a current member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. Participation in that group has kept him connected to peers who handle trial work and litigation strategy, and it has provided continued education opportunities as rules and practices evolve.
Across his positions, Byrd has handled a range of litigation tasks. His work has included drafting court filings, taking and defending depositions, and preparing witnesses for trial. He has experience in courtroom settings and in the preparation that precedes trial. Colleagues describe him as methodical in case preparation and direct in court, preferring clear organization over theatrics.
Outside the courtroom he spends time on case investigation and on developing legal arguments grounded in the record. Clients see him most often during the discovery phase and in hearings where procedural and evidentiary questions arise. He is practiced at coordinating with experts and managing the many moving parts of complex cases.
He currently practices litigation and trial work at Strickland, Diviney, Segura & Byrd.
