About Barry
Barry Bisson earned his law degree from Northeastern University School of Law, completing his J.D. in 2013. His time at Northeastern placed him in a practical, clinic-oriented environment that shaped how he approaches cases. He came out of law school intent on handling courtroom work and appellate matters rather than a purely transactional practice.
He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and New York, and he holds admissions to several federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court and the First and Second Circuits. Those credentials have allowed him to pursue both trial-level litigation and appeals. He has used those admissions to take cases beyond a single state line, arguing procedural and substantive points across jurisdictions when necessary.
Bisson has been active in professional organizations since early in his career. He has served on the Northeastern University School of Law Alumni/ae Board of Directors since 2013. He joined the American Bar Association the same year. In the Massachusetts Bar Association he moved into sectional leadership, serving on the Solo & Small Firm Section Council from 2015 to 2017 and as Vice Chair of that council from 2017 to 2018. Since 2018 he has been part of the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section Council. Those roles have kept him involved in policy discussions, continuing legal education and peer networks.
His practice is organized through Bisson Law. As a lawyer operating in a small-firm setting, he manages client relationships directly and handles litigation tasks from drafting to courtroom appearance. The combination of state and federal admissions makes the office equipped to handle matters that touch on both state criminal systems and federal appellate procedure. Managing a small office has also meant taking on the administrative and strategic responsibilities that come with running a practice rather than working only as part of a larger firm.
Colleagues and clients describe his approach as practical and procedure-oriented. He tends to emphasize courtroom preparedness, appellate preservation and clear briefing. In recent years his work has included criminal cases and appellate filings in federal circuits, reflecting the mix of trial and appeals practice his admissions allow. He currently practices at Bisson Law and concentrates on criminal defense and appellate matters.
