About Anthony M.
Anthony M. Segura built his legal foundation at two institutions known for rigorous programs. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics and history from Emory University in 2005, then went on to receive his J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 2009. The combination of liberal arts and law school training shaped a practical approach to problem solving and an interest in courtroom work.
Straight out of law school he joined LeClairRyan as an associate in 2009. Early years there were spent learning the mechanics of case preparation, motion practice and client counseling. In 2011 he moved to Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore where he continued to handle litigation matters and deepened his trial experience. Those formative roles exposed him to a range of disputes and courtroom settings across Virginia.
In 2015 Segura became a partner at Strickland, Diviney, Segura & Byrd. The partnership marked a shift from junior roles to firm leadership. As a partner he has taken on larger cases, supervised junior lawyers and handled strategic decisions about litigation. Colleagues describe him as methodical at trial and exacting in pretrial work. He has been an active member of local and statewide legal groups throughout his career.
His professional memberships trace a steady engagement with the legal community. He joined the Roanoke Bar Association in 2009 and has maintained that membership. The American Inns of Court, Ted Dalton Chapter counts him as a member since 2008, reflecting an early interest in ethical practice and mentorship. He has also been part of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association since 2013, an affiliation that aligns with regular courtroom practice.
Segura handles cases across Virginia’s state courts. He is known for careful preparation at each stage of litigation and for presenting arguments that aim to clarify complex factual records. He spends time coaching less experienced attorneys and often oversees trial teams. Outside the courtroom he participates in local bar activities and Inns of Court programs intended to improve advocacy skills among lawyers.
Across his career Segura has stayed rooted in the region where he built his practice. He lives and works in Virginia and continues to practice as a partner at Strickland, Diviney, Segura & Byrd. He focuses his current practice on litigation and trial work in Virginia courts.
