About Anjali
Anjali Nigam began her academic journey as an English major at the University of Texas at Austin, earning a B.A. in 1998. She stayed in Texas for law school and received her J.D. from the University of Houston in 2001. Those years set the tone for a steady climb through courtroom practice and firm-based litigation work.
She started her legal career the year she graduated, joining Phillips & Akers as an associate in 2001. Two years later she moved to Johnson, Spalding, Doyle, West & Trent, where she continued to develop casework and courtroom skills. In 2006 she joined Sheehy, Serpe & Ware and then moved again in 2008 to Farrar & Ball. Each stop was short but purposeful. In 2011 she took an associate position at The Ammons Law Office, expanding her exposure to different clients and case types.
In 2014 Nigam became a partner at Carrigan, McCloskey & Roberson. The title reflected more than seniority. It marked a shift into firm leadership and client management as much as case strategy. Over time she combined trial work with overseeing other attorneys on complex matters. She is licensed to practice in both Texas and California, and those jurisdictions shape where she accepts cases and appears in court.
Outside the office Nigam participates in several professional groups. She holds memberships in the Houston Bar Association, the Association of Women Lawyers, the Houston Trial Lawyers Association and the Garland R. Walker American Inn of Court. Those affiliations place her in regular contact with trial lawyers, judges and younger attorneys seeking mentoring. They also keep her plugged into continuing legal education and local court developments.
Colleagues describe her as someone who prefers steady preparation to theatrics in the courtroom. She has built a career on handling litigation matters across multiple firms and roles, moving from associate positions into partnership and leadership. Her résumé reflects repeated transitions that broadened her practice rather than a single narrow specialization.
As of 2026 she maintains licenses in Texas and California and practices in those states, handling civil litigation and trial matters.
