About Angela
Angela McIlveen earned her J.D. from Case Western Reserve University after completing a B.A. at Lenoir-Rhyne College. Her legal training combined coursework and practical clinics that steered her toward family law early in her career. She later gained bar memberships in both Florida and North Carolina, a foundation that has shaped a practice spanning state lines.
She began practicing in Florida and later expanded her work to North Carolina. Early in her career she worked as an associate at Dean & Gibson, PLLC in 2009. Three years later she helped establish McIlveen Family Law Office and became a partner there in 2012. The move to open a firm reflected a desire to shape how family law services are delivered in her community.
McIlveen is a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law by the North Carolina State Bar. Board certification is awarded after review and testing of an attorney’s knowledge and experience in a specialty area, and it signals a formal recognition by the state bar. That credential is one of several professional markers she maintains alongside active memberships in the Florida Bar and the North Carolina State Bar.
Her professional affiliations span local and national organizations. She has been a member of the Gaston County Bar Association since 2013 and the North Carolina Bar Association since 2009. She joined the North Carolina Advocates for Justice and its Family Law section in 2022 and holds membership in the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts beginning in 2022. From 2013 until 2022 she was a member of the American Bar Association. She also serves on the board of Lawyers Mutual of North Carolina, a role she took on in 2019.
Her caseload centers on family law matters. She handles divorce, custody, support and related family law issues, working on both negotiated settlements and contested matters. She represents individuals and families through litigation and out-of-court processes, and she advises clients on legal rights and options during emotionally charged transitions.
Colleagues describe her as pragmatic in the courtroom and deliberate in negotiations. She balances procedural demands with the personal dimensions of family disputes, aiming to provide clear legal guidance while addressing immediate client needs. In practice she draws on state and local experience to manage cases that often involve complex financial and parenting issues.
As partner at McIlveen Family Law Office, she continues to practice in North Carolina and Florida, focusing on family law and related legal services.
