About Andrew P.

Andrew P. Giel completed a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at The Ohio State University in 2015 and earned his Juris Doctor from The Pennsylvania State University School of Law in 2018. The combination of a technical undergraduate degree and a law degree shaped his early professional interests. He moved from engineering studies into legal training over a relatively short span, carrying analytic habits developed in the classroom into his legal education.

He began his legal career at DFL Legal as an associate in 2018. Early work involved research, drafting pleadings and briefs, and supporting more senior attorneys on client matters. Those foundational tasks gave him steady exposure to the practical side of litigation and transactional practice. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing materials and attentive to procedural detail.

Giel’s engineering background informs how he reads complex documentation. Technical reports, specifications and schematic drawings are less foreign to him than to many lawyers. He has been asked to translate technical language into clear legal arguments and to help identify where factual engineering issues could affect legal outcomes. That perspective often shapes how he approaches discovery and evidence review.

In practice he has been involved in matters that require careful document analysis and cross-disciplinary coordination. He has worked alongside other attorneys to assess technical claims, prepare experts for deposition and organize the factual record in cases with an engineering component. He routinely handles legal research and drafting tasks that support case strategy and client counseling.

Outside of casework he maintains ties to both his law school and undergraduate networks. Those contacts have sometimes proved useful when locating technical experts or exploring regulatory contexts that affect clients. His peers say he brings a steady, analytical mind to daily work and prefers clear, practical solutions over complex theory.

He remains at DFL Legal and continues to build on the combination of legal training and technical knowledge he began to assemble in law school. He currently practices at DFL Legal, handling client matters informed by his legal training and engineering background.
