About Andrew Andy
Andrew Andy Hook graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering, earning High Distinction in 1968. He stayed at UVA for law school and received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1972. The combination of a technical undergraduate degree and a legal education shaped an approach that blends analytical rigor with practical problem solving.
Hook moved into private practice shortly after graduation. In 1975 he was a founding partner of Oast & Hook, an early chapter in a career that would span several decades. In 2012 he established Hook Law Center and serves as its president. The shift from a long-standing partnership to founding his own firm reflected an interest in building a practice around a specific set of client needs.
He is admitted to practice in Virginia. Over the years he has earned several professional credentials that cross the boundary between law and financial advice. He is a Certified Financial Planner, holds the Series 65 Uniform Investment Adviser license, and is licensed as a life and health insurance agent. He also is certified as an elder law lawyer by the National Elder Law Foundation. Those credentials inform the work he does for older clients and for families managing estates.
Hook maintains memberships in professional organizations that align with his practice areas. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He also holds active certification as a Certified Elder Law Lawyer. Those affiliations keep him connected to developments in elder law, trusts and estates, and fiduciary practice.
At Hook Law Center he oversees offices in Virginia Beach and Suffolk. The firm’s work reflects the mix of legal and financial licensing he has developed: estate planning documents, probate administration, elder law matters and advice about insurance and investment issues tied to long-term care and succession planning. He brings procedural experience from decades in firm practice and the additional credentialing to advise on financial products and fiduciary responsibilities.
Clients and colleagues describe a methodical practitioner who draws on a career that began in the 1970s and continues into the present. He remains active in professional circles and keeps the firm focused on issues commonly faced by older adults and their families. He currently concentrates his practice on elder law, estate planning, probate and related financial planning matters.
