About Ana S.
Ana S. Nunez earned her Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2014 after earlier studies in psychology and social work. She holds a Master of Science in Social Work from Florida International University, awarded in 2009, and both a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from the University of Central Florida, each completed in 2008. Those academic choices shaped an early interest in how law and social systems intersect.
She began her professional legal career in the public sector. In 2014 she joined the Wake County Public Defender's Office as an assistant public defender. The role placed her in courtrooms at an early stage in her legal career. It also required quick case assessment, client interviews, and appearing at hearings. After a year in public defense she moved into private practice.
In 2015 Nunez took a position with Fay & Grafton. She has been identified with that firm in its Asheville office. Her time there built on courtroom experience and on the client-facing skills developed earlier in her career. Colleagues describe her as pragmatic in case handling and careful in preparing for hearings and negotiations.
Nunez is admitted to practice in North Carolina and has held membership in the North Carolina State Bar since 2014. She is also a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and the Wake County Bar Association. Those memberships have kept her connected to statewide and local developments in procedure and practice.
Her background in social work informs the way she approaches client interviews and case strategy. She tends to emphasize practical problem solving and clear communication. In criminal matters she has experience in arraignments, pretrial motions and plea discussions. In client meetings she draws on training in social work to assess needs beyond strictly legal issues, including social services and community resources.
Nunez maintains a practice based in North Carolina. She works out of office locations that have included an address at 2609 Atlantic Avenue and Fay & Grafton's Asheville office. She represents clients in the state and handles criminal defense matters and related proceedings in North Carolina courts.
