About Amy C.

Amy C. Bates built a legal path that begins in the classroom and moves steadily into firm leadership. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of the South in 2004 and completed her Juris Doctor degree at Mississippi College School of Law in 2009. The two degrees established a foundation in law and public affairs that she carried into practice.

After law school, Bates joined The Kennedy Law Firm in 2010. She spent her early years there handling the day-to-day tasks of private practice and developing practical courtroom experience. That period offered steady exposure to case preparation, client meetings and the routines that shape a litigation-ready practice.

In 2015 she became a partner at Mathis, Bates & Klinghard PLLC. The promotion marked a shift from associate responsibilities to firm management and case leadership. As a partner she took on larger roles in strategy and supervision, while continuing to serve clients directly. Colleagues at the firm describe her as someone who balances casework with the administrative demands of partnership.

Bates is licensed to practice in both Tennessee and Kentucky. That dual admission has allowed her to represent clients across state lines and appear in courts in both jurisdictions. Her career shows steady development: classroom training followed by hands-on experience, then an expansion into partnership and firm governance. She also maintains professional affiliations outside the firm that keep her connected to the legal community.

Those years in private practice have given Bates a familiarity with the rhythms of client representation and the mechanics of trial preparation. She has overseen litigation teams, prepared pleadings and handled negotiations on behalf of clients. The work requires attention to procedural detail and the ability to move matters toward resolution when appropriate.

Today Bates practices at Mathis, Bates & Klinghard PLLC, where she carries the responsibilities of partner while serving clients in matters that arise in Tennessee and Kentucky. Her current practice focuses on advising and representing individuals and businesses in state matters across those jurisdictions.
