About Amber Yerkey
Amber Yerkey James built a path to law that began with music and management. She earned a B.A. in Music from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1998 and added an MBA from UAB in 2000. She completed her J.D. at Birmingham School of Law in 2006 and entered practice soon after.
James joined the Alabama bar in 2005 and opened her own practice the following year. In 2006 she established James Family Law Center, LLC and began handling family law matters at the trial and client level. Two years later she returned to Birmingham School of Law as an adjunct professor, teaching and mentoring students while maintaining a private practice.
Her career grew to include roles beyond the local courtroom. In 2012 she served as of counsel to the International Fertility Law Group, PC, a position that introduced reproductive law matters into her repertoire. In 2014 she became CEO of New Beginnings Family Law, P.C., a firm role that added administrative leadership to her responsibilities as an attorney. She is board certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, a credential that recognizes training and performance in courtroom practice.
James has been active in bar associations at multiple levels. She holds membership in the Alabama State Bar since 2005 and joined the American Bar Association in 2007. Locally she is a member of the Morgan County Bar Association from 2006 and the Madison County Bar Association from 2009. Those ties reflect regular participation in continuing education and local professional networks.
Her record includes classroom instruction, private practice ownership, of counsel work, and law firm management. She has handled contested matters in family law and has experience related to assisted reproduction issues through her association with the fertility law group. Students and colleagues have known her as an instructor who moves between practical courtroom techniques and the procedural detail expected of family law practitioners.
James maintains an office in Huntsville where she sees clients and oversees firm operations. Her practice includes representation in divorce, custody, support, and fertility-related legal matters. She currently practices family law out of her Huntsville office.
