About Amanda Stone
Amanda Stone Swart trained as both a reporter and a policy student before turning to law. She earned a B.A. in Political Science and Journalism from Creighton University in 2004 and a J.D. from George Mason University School of Law in 2009. Those dual undergraduate majors inform the way she analyzes facts and frames argument. The law degree put her on a courtroom track that she has followed for more than a decade.
Her first position after law school was as an associate at Cole Miller PLLC in 2010. There she handled matters that built a foundation in family and trial practice. In 2015 she moved to Livesay & Myers, P.C. as a senior associate. The change marked a shift to a firm where she would take on more courtroom responsibilities and case management duties. In 2021 she was promoted to lead senior associate, a role that added supervision of younger lawyers and a heavier docket.
Swart is admitted to practice in Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. She has carried cases through trial courts and handled appeals in federal circuit matters. Her work often involves contested custody hearings, divorce proceedings, and related family-court litigation. Colleagues describe her as methodical in preparing cases and direct in court, preferring clear oral argument and organized filings.
She has been active in local and statewide bar organizations for many years. She joined the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section in 2010. She became a member of the Loudoun County Bar Association and the Fairfax Bar Association family-law groups in 2015. Within Loudoun County’s bar she has served as social chair, as a member of the board of directors and as president-elect during 2022–2023. On the alumni side, she has remained involved with Creighton University’s Washington, D.C. chapter, serving on its advisory board since 2005 and as chapter president from 2012 to 2014.
Her day-to-day practice at Livesay & Myers centers on family law cases that require negotiation, litigation, or both. She splits time between courtroom appearances and client counseling. She also mentors younger attorneys at the firm and maintains involvement in bar committees that handle juvenile and domestic relations court issues. She practices family law and related matters at Livesay & Myers, P.C.
