About Amanda L.

Amanda L. James began her professional life in education before turning to the law. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Mississippi State University and later completed a Master of Arts in Education at William Carey College. She then attended St. Mary’s University School of Law, where she earned her J.D. in 2014.

Her first legal role came immediately after law school. In 2014 she worked as a briefing lawyer for the 4th Court of Appeals, drafting memoranda and assisting appellate judges and staff. That position gave her early exposure to appellate procedure and legal research at a court level. The work demanded precision and an ability to write under deadline.

A year later she opened her own practice. In 2015 she established Amanda L. James Law, PLLC and has been the firm’s principal since then. Running a small firm has involved a mix of litigation, client counseling and case management. She handles filings, attends hearings, and oversees strategy for the matters the firm accepts.

Her practice is authorized in Texas and she is admitted to practice before the Fifth Circuit. Those jurisdictions inform the kinds of cases she takes and the procedural pathways she follows. Over time she has combined her courtroom work with appellate experience to guide clients through both trial and post-trial stages.

James is active in professional organizations. She has been a member of the Bexar County Women’s Bar Association since 2011. She joined the Texas Young Lawyers Association, the San Antonio Bar Association and the American Bar Association in 2014. She became a member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association in 2015 and the Federal Bar Association in 2016. In 2017 she joined the Texas Bar College. These memberships have kept her connected to local and national developments in practice and procedure.

Her early training in education informs how she communicates case strategy and legal concepts to clients. She emphasizes clear explanations and practical options rather than legalese. She manages a small legal team and coordinates outside experts when a matter requires specialized input.

As principal of Amanda L. James Law, PLLC she continues to divide her time between courtroom appearances and appellate work. Her current practice focuses on litigation and appellate representation in Texas and before the Fifth Circuit.
