About Amanda Brooke
Amanda Brooke Newell began her legal path in California's public universities. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Political Science from California State University, Fresno in 2000. Four years later she received her J.D. from the University of California, Davis. Those formative years set up a steady progression from campus clinics to courtroom work.
Early in her career she took on hands-on legal work through public interest internships. In 2005 she worked on housing law matters at Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance. The following year she staffed senior law center and elder abuse matters at California Rural Legal Assistance in Modesto. Those placements gave her practical exposure to client intake, statutory remedies and advocacy for vulnerable populations.
She moved into private practice soon after. In 2007 she joined Smith & Bryant, Inc. as a lawyer. That role coincided with the start of her membership in both the California Employment Lawyers Association and the National Employment Lawyers Association, memberships she has maintained since 2007. In 2011 she worked at the Law Offices of Shelley G. Bryant, continuing litigation and client representation responsibilities.
Her professional memberships reflect a steady interest in workplace law. She has been active in employment-law circles for nearly two decades. That engagement suggests a practice shaped by employment disputes, labor issues and related civil litigation. Her early public-interest work and later private practice roles add breadth to how she approaches cases and client counseling.
Newell is licensed to practice in California and admitted to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She combines experience from both public assistance programs and private law firms when preparing matters for state and federal forums. Colleagues and clients see a lawyer who moves between administrative matters and court filings with an eye on procedure and client needs.
Over the years her file work has included case intake, pleadings, motion practice and appellate filings. She draws on the skills she developed during her internships and firm work while handling discovery, drafting briefs and appearing in hearings. She has remained connected to employment-law organizations, participating in the professional networks that inform litigators about developments in statutes and case law.
She currently represents clients in employment-related matters in California and before the Ninth Circuit.
