About Alonzo M.
Alonzo M. Alston earned his J.D. from Charlotte School of Law in 2006 and holds a B.A. in Communications Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he studied media production and related subjects. His academic background blends legal training with an understanding of media and production processes, a combination that later shaped the kinds of clients and matters he pursued.
He launched McAlpine PLLC in 2009 and serves as the firm’s owner and managing member. That venture followed several years of building connections in North Carolina’s legal and entertainment communities. From 2010 to 2014 he served as of counsel to Ken Harris & Associates, P.A., a role that overlapped with the early years of McAlpine and allowed him to work on a mix of transactional and advisory matters.
Alston took on leadership roles in the North Carolina Bar Association’s Sports and Entertainment Law Section. He chaired the Music and Film Committee from 2010 to 2011 and was listed as Treasurer-Elect in 2011. Those positions placed him in regular contact with other lawyers and professionals who work in music, film and related creative industries, and they reflect an ongoing interest in the legal issues that affect those fields.
His practice centers on business and entertainment law. He advises clients on contracts, licensing, and business arrangements that arise in creative and commercial contexts. Much of his work involves negotiating agreements, clarifying rights and obligations, and structuring deals so parties can move forward with projects. Clients include individuals and small businesses connected to music, film and media, alongside entrepreneurs working on commercial ventures.
Within McAlpine PLLC he oversees the firm’s business and entertainment law office. The firm’s work ranges from routine contract drafting to longer-term planning for clients navigating the intersection of commerce and creative work. Colleagues describe his role as managerial as well as legal, maintaining the firm’s operations while handling client matters.
He is admitted to practice in North Carolina and remains active in the state’s legal community. He currently practices as owner of McAlpine PLLC, where he concentrates on business and entertainment law matters.
