About Aleta
Aleta Peacock earned her J.D. from the University of Houston in 1995 after completing a B.S. in Professional Writing at the University of Houston–Downtown in 1991. In 1993 she pursued international legal studies, completing programs at Trinity College Dublin and a course in European dispute resolution and mediation at Charles University in Prague. Her academic background blends traditional law training with cross-border study of dispute resolution methods.
She opened the Law Office of Aleta Peacock in 1996 and has practiced there since. Her admitted jurisdictions include Texas and the U.S. Supreme Court. Over more than two decades in private practice she has handled a mix of negotiated and contested family law matters and has developed a practice that emphasizes alternative dispute resolution alongside courtroom representation.
Peacock’s professional training includes certification as a Family Law Mediator from the University of Houston Law Center. She completed parenting facilitator and coordinator training under Aaron Robb, Ph.D., and participated in the New Ways for Families program led by William A. Eddy, J.D., LCSW. She is also a Collaborative Lawyer through the Collaborative Law Institute of Texas. These credentials reflect formal training in mediation, parenting coordination, and collaborative practice.
In practice she serves as a mediator and collaborative counsel in divorce, custody, and related family disputes. She accepts appointments as a parenting facilitator or coordinator in high-conflict parenting situations. Her approach favors settlement processes when parties are able to work together, but she continues to represent clients in contested proceedings when necessary.
Her day-to-day work involves drafting settlement agreements, facilitating negotiation sessions, preparing parenting plans, and representing clients at hearings. She balances negotiated dispute resolution with litigation tasks, including filings and court appearances in Texas. Since founding her office in 1996, she has maintained a private practice that handles both pre-judgment and post-judgment family law issues.
The Law Office of Aleta Peacock remains her principal office. Her current practice focuses on family law, mediation, collaborative law, parenting facilitation, and post-judgment family matters.
