About Alejandro
Alejandro Acosta began his legal path in Texas after completing a J.D. at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University in 2008. He earned a B.A. in history from St. Mary’s University in 2004. Those academic years set the groundwork for work in appellate research and trial practice that followed.
He started his post-law school career as a research lawyer for the 8th Court of Appeals in 2008. The experience gave him early exposure to appellate procedure and legal writing. In 2010 he moved into private practice as an associate at Scherr & Legate PLLC, where he gained hands-on experience in litigation and client advocacy.
Acosta became a partner in 2016 at Flores, Tawney & Acosta, P.C. He remained there through a period of firm growth and case work that covered serious personal injury matters. In 2023 he joined Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro, P.C. as a partner. That move continued a career focused on courtroom advocacy and trial work.
He is licensed in Texas and New Mexico, and admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas and the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico. He has been a member of the State Bar of Texas since 2008. The Texas Board of Legal Specialization has board certified him in Personal Injury Trial Law, an accreditation that denotes recognized trial experience in that subject.
Outside the courtroom he belongs to several professional organizations. Current memberships include the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, El Paso Trial Lawyers Association, the Texas Bar Foundation where he is a fellow, the American Association for Justice, the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association, and the Federal Bar Association. These affiliations reflect ongoing engagement with peer education and trial practice community events.
Colleagues describe Acosta as methodical in case preparation and steady in trial settings. He has handled matters that require both negotiated settlements and jury trials. He brings appellate experience to trial-level cases, often reviewing legal issues from both procedural and evidentiary angles.
He maintains an active trial practice in the border region and federal courts where he is admitted. His work centers on personal injury litigation and trial representation, and he practices as a partner at Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro, P.C.
