About Alec S.

Alec S. Pine began his legal formation at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, earning a bachelor’s degree in 2007. He continued his studies at Hofstra University School of Law and received his J.D. in 2011. Those years framed his early interests in criminal defense and civil litigation and prepared him for court work at both the state and federal levels.

Pine’s first professional post was with the Legal Aid Society of New York City, where he served as a staff lawyer in the Criminal Defense Practice for Bronx County beginning in 2011. He handled a steady docket of serious matters and gained courtroom experience defending clients charged with a range of offenses. The work required quick case assessment, frequent motion practice and repeated appearances before trial judges.

In 2015 he moved to Swartz & Swartz, P.C., where he represented plaintiffs in personal injury matters. That role introduced him to civil discovery, negotiation with insurance carriers and settlement drafting. A year later he joined Governo Law Office LLC as a civil defense litigation attorney. There he shifted sides again, defending corporations and individuals against claims arising from accidents and alleged negligence. The transitions reflect both adaptability and a broad exposure to different phases of litigation.

Pine became a partner at Butters Brazilian LLP in 2018. His professional memberships include the Massachusetts Bar Association and local groups such as Suffolk Lawyers for Justice and Middlesex Defense Lawyers, where he has held memberships since 2018. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and New York, and he has federal admissions in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

Colleagues describe Pine as direct in court and methodical in preparation. He has worked on both prosecution-side and defense-side teams and brings that perspective into case strategy and client counseling. He has moved through several practice environments: nonprofit public defense, plaintiff-side personal injury, private defense practice and then firm partnership.

He maintains his office at Butters Brazilian LLP, where he handles litigation matters that include civil defense and federal filings, and continues to appear in state and federal courts as required by his cases.
