About Alan

Alan Schoen built his legal foundation at the University of Scranton, where he completed a Bachelor of Science in 1978. He continued his studies at Western New England University School of Law and earned his J.D. in 1982. Those years set the groundwork for a long career in civil litigation and courtroom practice.

After law school, Schoen entered private practice and established himself in Pennsylvania courts. He is admitted to practice before the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Over the decades he has tried civil matters in both state and federal forums.

Trial work is a defining element of Schoen’s practice. He holds board certifications from the National Board of Trial Advocacy as a Civil Trial Specialist and as a Certified Civil Pretrial Advocate. Those credentials reflect focused training and assessment in trial skills and pretrial procedure. He applies those skills to jury trials, bench trials, and complex motions practice, handling factual and procedural challenges that arise before and during trial.

Schoen’s professional life includes long-standing ties to local and national bar groups. He maintains memberships in the Pennsylvania State Bar, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Lackawanna County Bar Association. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and belongs to trial-oriented organizations such as the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association and the Northeast Trial Lawyers Association. In addition, he holds an associate membership in the American Justice Association. Those affiliations keep him connected to developments in trial practice and state and federal procedure.

He practices at Lenahan & Dempsey P.C., where his caseload centers on civil litigation. Colleagues describe him as steady and pragmatic in the courtroom, preferring clear preparation and direct presentation over flourish. His certification in pretrial advocacy informs how he approaches early case work: focusing on evidence, witness preparation, and dispositive motion practice.

Across a multi-decade career, Schoen has combined courtroom work with ongoing participation in bar groups and trial organizations. He continues to represent clients in civil disputes in state and federal courts and concentrates his current practice on trial and pretrial advocacy at Lenahan & Dempsey P.C.
