About Alan L.

Alan L. Cantor built his legal foundation at Colby College, where he earned an A.B. in 1970, and at Suffolk University Law School, receiving his J.D. in 1972. He entered the profession at a time when courtroom practice still dominated litigation. The dates on his degrees mark the start of a long legal career that has spanned both state and federal forums.

Throughout his career Cantor has practiced in Massachusetts courts and in federal venues. He is admitted to the Massachusetts bar and holds admissions to the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Those admissions have allowed him to move between trial work and appellate advocacy when cases required further review.

His resume includes substantial trial work. Cantor’s memberships in trial lawyer organizations reflect that orientation. He is a member of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Lawyers and of The Association of Trial Lawyers of America. He also holds membership in the Massachusetts Bar Association. Those affiliations have kept him connected to peers who practice in both civil litigation and trial court settings.

Cantor has spent significant years in private practice. His current association is with Swartz & Swartz, P.C., where he brings courtroom experience and appellate familiarity to client matters. He has handled cases that progressed from state courts to federal trial dockets, and on occasion to appellate panels. He tends to approach each matter with methodical preparation, attention to procedural detail, and a readiness to present arguments in both jury and bench settings.

Colleagues describe him as steady in court and thorough in preparation. He prefers a pragmatic style in advocacy. He has worked on cases that required careful development of the record and precise briefing before appellate tribunals. Over decades in practice he has witnessed changes in procedure and evidence law, adapting his courtroom tactics as those changes emerged.

At Swartz & Swartz, P.C., Cantor continues to accept cases that require trial and appellate representation in Massachusetts and in federal courts. He currently practices in areas involving litigation in state and federal courts and provides trial and appellate representation to clients who need courtroom advocacy.
