About Adam Edward
Adam Edward Urbanczyk combines technical training and legal education in a practice centered on intellectual property. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2003. He then attended The John Marshall Law School and completed his J.D. in 2009, concentrating on intellectual property matters during his studies.
His career began in industry. In 2003 he worked as a systems engineer at General Dynamics Land Systems. That early technical work informed his later shift to law. He entered legal practice through clerkships, serving at Augustine Kern & Levens, Ltd. in 2007 and then at Saper Law Offices LLC in 2008. He later joined Saper Law Offices as an associate and clerk, handling research and document drafting for litigation and patent matters.
By 2012 he moved into private practice leadership. He is listed as a principal lawyer at Au LLC. Over time he established credentials that include registration as a patent lawyer with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is admitted to practice in Illinois, Michigan and the District of Columbia. He also holds membership in the District of Columbia Bar, a membership that dates from 2012 and continues to the present.
Urbanczyk’s background links mechanical engineering and patent law. His work history gives him hands-on experience with technical drawings, systems specifications and engineering problem solving. That combination is relevant to patent prosecution, patentability assessments and prior art analysis. He has handled tasks common to patent practice such as preparing patent applications and advising on patent strategy, drawing on both engineering training and legal education.
Colleagues and clients encounter a lawyer who moves between detailed technical material and case law. He spent formative years on both sides of that divide: the engineer working on land systems and the lawyer researching statutory and regulatory frameworks. Those years inform how he evaluates inventions and frames claims.
He maintains his practice through Au LLC. His current work centers on patent counseling and related intellectual property services for clients engaged in technical development and product design.
