About Abraham Del Rio

Abraham Del Rio III built his legal foundation at Case Western Reserve University, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts. He went on to Regent University School of Law, beginning studies in 2009 and earning his J.D. in 2012. The chronological arc of his education set a steady course into courtroom work and public service.

He started his legal career in 2012 as an associate at Gemondo & McQuiggan. That early stint provided day-to-day experience in client work and courtroom procedures. In 2013 he accepted a judicial appointment and served as a magistrate for the 12th Judicial District through the Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia. The magistrate role placed him inside the criminal justice process at its entry points and gave him a perspective on preliminary hearings and initial judicial determinations.

Del Rio moved back into private practice in 2015 when he became a partner at Del Rio Law PLLC. He later added an affiliated counsel role at Carlson & Collier in 2017, expanding the scope of cases and matters he handles in collaboration with other attorneys. His career path shows alternating experience on both sides of the bench: judicial service followed by private practice.

He holds formal certifications from Virginia authorities. The Virginia Indigent Defense Commission has certified him as a criminal defense lawyer for both felonies and misdemeanors. He also carries magistrate certification issued by the Supreme Court of Virginia’s Office of the Executive Secretary. These certifications reflect formal recognition by state institutions of the work he performs in criminal defense and in judicial capacities.

Del Rio is admitted to practice in Virginia and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia. He maintains membership in the Virginia State Bar and in the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Those affiliations connect him to the statewide bar and to peers who handle criminal defense matters.

Today he practices from Del Rio Law, PLLC and continues his affiliated counsel work with Carlson & Collier. His caseload includes criminal defense matters in state and federal forums, and he represents clients charged with both misdemeanors and felonies as a certified criminal defense lawyer. He also draws on his experience as a former magistrate when advising clients on early-stage criminal proceedings.

He currently concentrates his practice on criminal defense in Virginia courts and federal courts in the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia.
