About Abigail
Abigail Benjamin began her academic path at Smith College, where she completed a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies and Government in 1997. She then attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, earning her Juris Doctor in 2000. Those years framed an interest in public service and law that would shape the early part of her career.
In 2000 she joined the State Legal Services Association’s Southeastern Ohio Legal Services Program as a staff lawyer. There she worked directly with clients who had limited resources, providing civil legal assistance on a variety of matters. The position involved client intake, legal research, case preparation and courtroom appearances when necessary. It was practical, hands-on work. It exposed her to the range of challenges that clients bring to community legal programs.
After more than a decade of public interest practice, Benjamin moved into private practice. In 2016 she opened The Law Office of Abigail Benjamin. The move shifted her work from an institutional setting to operating a small firm where she could manage cases from start to finish. Running the office also meant taking on the administrative duties of a solo practice: client development, case management and overseeing her own docket.
Across her career she has maintained ties to the communities she serves. She is licensed to practice in Wisconsin, West Virginia and Ohio. That multi-state admission allows her to represent clients in different forums and to address cross-border issues when they arise. Colleagues describe her as steady in court and precise in written work. She has handled matters in both courts and administrative settings, and she has experience counseling people through legal processes and next steps.
Benjamin’s path is one of steady practice rather than public profile. She has moved from legal aid to private practice and kept the practical work of serving clients at the center of her day-to-day work. As of 2026 she maintains The Law Office of Abigail Benjamin and concentrates her practice on providing legal services to individual clients and community organizations across Wisconsin, West Virginia and Ohio.
