About Zahra S.
Zahra S. Umansky completed her undergraduate studies at Stetson University, earning a B.A. in 1989. She went on to law school at Florida State University College of Law and received her J.D. in 1992. Those years shaped an early interest in courtroom work and public service. They also set the stage for a career that moved quickly from training to practice.
She began her legal career in public defense. In 1993 she joined the Office of the Public Defender for the 18th Judicial Circuit as an assistant public defender. There she handled a range of criminal cases and gained experience in trial preparation, client counseling and courtroom advocacy. A few years later she crossed to the other side of the aisle when she served as a city prosecutor for the City of Orlando in 1996. That role involved prosecuting municipal offenses and working with police and municipal staff on matters that often resolved outside a full jury trial.
Throughout her career she has maintained active ties to professional groups that concentrate on criminal law. She belongs to the Orange County Bar Association and is a member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. She also holds membership in the Central Florida Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Those affiliations reflect a consistent engagement with peers who handle criminal cases at both the local and national levels.
Today she practices under the name The Umansky Law Office and is licensed to practice in Florida. Her background on both sides of the courtroom—public defense and municipal prosecution—gives her a broad perspective on criminal matters. She represents individuals in criminal proceedings and handles related pretrial work and negotiations. She practices criminal defense in Florida at The Umansky Law Office.
