About Wooshik

Wooshik Shim built his legal foundation at Chicago‑Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology. He arrived in law school after earlier technical training and academic work that steered him toward intellectual property, and he pursued patent law as a path that combined law and technology. His time at Chicago‑Kent shaped a pragmatic approach to written advocacy and the mechanics of patent practice.

Shim’s first documented role in the patent field was as a patent analyst at Global Patent Solutions LLC in 2014. In that position he reviewed patent literature and helped prepare documentation used in prosecution and portfolio management. The work put him into frequent contact with patent filings and examiner communications, and it gave him a practical grasp of the administrative side of securing intellectual property rights.

In 2017 he moved into a lawyer role at Bold Patents. There he handled client matters that involved drafting patent applications and corresponding with examiners. The transition from analyst to attorney extended his responsibilities to client counseling and strategy. Colleagues and clients from that period note his attention to detail on specification drafting and claim construction.

Shim maintains an active association with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. That affiliation reflects ongoing work that requires regular interaction with the Office’s procedures and filings. He also participates in professional networks that bring together patent practitioners and technical experts, helping him stay current on procedural developments and examination trends.

His career has followed a steady arc from technical analysis to legal advocacy. He draws on both sets of skills when advising inventors and corporate clients about portfolio development and prosecution strategy. He prefers clear, concise patent applications and practical advice about filing paths and timelines. Outside work he reads technical journals related to the areas he handles and follows updates from the patent office.

As of 2026 Shim continues to practice patent law, applying courtroom-style writing and administrative experience to client matters. He concentrates on patent prosecution and counseling for technology clients.
