About William
William Umansky is a Florida lawyer whose career spans public service, private practice and civic involvement. He studied psychology as an undergraduate before turning to law, a background that he has said informs how he approaches clients and cases.
He earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of South Florida in 1984. Five years later he completed his J.D. at the University of Florida College of Law in 1989. The combination of social science and legal training set the stage for work in both prosecution and defense in the state courts of Florida.
Early in his career he served as an assistant state lawyer beginning in 1993. That role moved him into courtroom work and criminal charging decisions. He then worked as a city prosecutor in 1995, where he gained further experience handling municipal-level criminal matters. In 1999 he founded The Umansky Law Office and remains its owner and managing partner. Over the years he has moved between public roles and private practice, carrying courtroom experience into his firm’s work.
His professional associations reflect a mix of criminal defense, trial practice and community engagement. He has been a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2010 and joined the National College of DUI Defense and the National Association of Personal Injury Lawyers in 2013. He belongs to the Florida Justice Association and has been active in local bar organizations, including long-standing involvement with the Orange County Bar Association where he has served on executive counsel and on gala and committee roles dating back to the early 2000s. He has also served on the board of the Central Florida Trial Lawyers Association and on the board of the Central Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Beyond bar work, Umansky has participated in local civic groups. He has been a member of the Rotary Club of Avalon Park and the Orlando Chamber of Commerce since 2006, and he has held positions with legal aid organizations and youth-focused nonprofits. His record includes service on a Ninth Judicial Circuit grievance committee and time on the board of trustees for the Orange County Legal Aid Society.
Colleagues describe him as experienced in court procedure and case management. His practice has encompassed criminal defense, DUI cases and personal injury matters, blending trial experience with local court knowledge. He continues to operate The Umansky Law Office and concentrates his practice on criminal defense, DUI and personal injury work.
