About William

William Orlewicz earned his J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2011, after beginning his legal studies in 2008. His academic record is anchored in Detroit, where he completed the requirements for his law degree and prepared for practice in Michigan. He later augmented his legal training with technical and privacy credentials that align with changes in technology and law.

He serves as Principal at Relic Law PLLC. His title reflects a leadership role at a small firm environment where he handles client work directly. Before establishing himself in that capacity he built practical experience advising on matters that intersect law and technology. He is admitted to practice in Michigan and maintains his practice there.

Orlewicz holds industry-recognized privacy credentials. He earned the Certified Information Privacy Professional credential for the United States (CIPP/US) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals and has been a member of that association since 2018. He also completed an Introduction to Cyber Security course at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, coursework that supplements his legal background with technical awareness of cyber risk and defensive practices.

Those qualifications inform the cases and matters he handles. He advises businesses and organizations on privacy compliance, data protection strategies, incident response planning, and regulatory issues that affect personal information. His work combines statutory and regulatory analysis with operational advice aimed at reducing legal and reputational risk. He also assists clients navigating state and federal privacy requirements as they adapt policies and contracts to evolving standards.

Colleagues and clients describe him as methodical and practical. He approaches complex technical problems by breaking them down into legal issues that can be resolved through policy, training, or contractual solutions. In court or at the negotiating table he tends to emphasize clarity and risk management rather than broad legal theory.

Outside of client work he maintains active professional ties through the International Association of Privacy Professionals. He keeps current on developments in privacy law and cyber security by combining continuing education with day-to-day client work. He currently practices at Relic Law PLLC, where his work focuses on privacy and data security matters.
