About William

William Morris built his legal foundation in a steady progression of academic study. He earned a B.A. in History and pre-law from Wake Forest University in 1997. He then took up legal studies at Vermont Law School, receiving his J.D. in 2000. After several years of practice he returned to academic study and completed an LL.M. in Intellectual Property, Commerce, and Technology Law at Franklin Pierce Law Center in 2006.

He began practicing law in Vermont after law school and has spent his career working in that state’s legal community. The decision to pursue an advanced degree followed early experience in practice and a desire to handle more technical and commercial matters. Over time he moved into roles that combined transactional work and litigation support, advising businesses and individuals on the legal dimensions of commerce and technology.

Morris’s LL.M. signals a concentration in intellectual property and technology-related issues. He advises clients on IP matters, business contracts, licensing arrangements and regulatory compliance tied to commercial operations. He also routinely assists with dispute resolution, providing counsel on pre-litigation strategy and supporting litigation when matters proceed to court. His background in history and a broad legal education shape the analytical approach he brings to complex commercial problems.

At Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC he is part of a team that handles a range of corporate and commercial matters for clients across industries. Colleagues describe him as methodical and clear in written work. He tends to break complex issues into manageable steps and communicates options plainly so clients can make informed choices.

He is admitted to practice in Vermont and works primarily from the Downs Rachlin Martin office. He remains engaged in matters that touch on intellectual property, commercial law and technology-related transactions and disputes, advising clients on practical legal solutions in those areas of practice.
