About William J.
William J. Harrington trained as a historian before turning to law. He completed a B.A. at Indiana University Bloomington in 1984 and earned his J.D. from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 1991. Those formative years gave him a foundation in research and a comfort with complex written records that would shape his approach to practice.
He entered private practice in the early 1990s. His first recorded position was an associate role in 1994 at the Law Office of Shelmerdeane Miller. Five years later he joined Rusin, Maciorowski and Friedman as a partner in 1999. That period marked his move into more senior responsibilities, including supervising junior lawyers and taking on a heavier caseload.
By 2014 Harrington had begun working at Kanoski & Bresney. He is listed as a lawyer there and is associated with the firm’s multiple regional offices. Over the years his work has been rooted in Illinois practice and in serving clients across the state from several local offices.
Colleagues describe Harrington as a deliberate lawyer who favors careful preparation. He relies on written analysis and a steady courtroom presence when matters require it. He has handled matters through both litigation and transactional tracks while operating within mid-size firm environments and smaller, local practices earlier in his career.
His practice is tied to Kanoski & Bresney’s footprint in central Illinois. He spends time working out of the firm’s Bloomington, Springfield, Rushville, Pekin, Champaign, Quincy, Decatur and Macomb locations, providing clients access to a regional office network. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and continues to serve clients through the firm’s regional offices.
He represents clients across Illinois through the regional offices of Kanoski & Bresney as his current practice focus.
