About William

William Flahavan began his academic path in economics and moved into law in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Saint Mary’s College in 1968. He then attended Hastings College of the Law, earning his Juris Doctor in 1971 and serving as Note and Comment editor for the Hastings Law Journal. That combination of economics training and legal scholarship shaped the early contours of his career.

After law school he entered practice in California. He is admitted to the California bar and has spent his career working within the state’s legal system. His journal editorship speaks to a facility for legal writing and analysis; those skills have appeared regularly in briefs, motions, and client counseling over the years. Records show a long association with legal practice beginning after 1971 and continuing into the present.

Flahavan’s background in economics informed how he approaches complex factual problems. He has applied economic reasoning to contractual and business disputes, and his legal writing experience has supported appellate and trial work. Colleagues and court filings note an emphasis on careful preparation and on explaining technical points clearly for judges and clients. Over the decades he has handled matters that required both numerical understanding and precise legal argument.

He has practiced law in California courts and before administrative bodies. That work has required adapting to changing rules and evolving areas of law. He has kept ties to legal scholarship through early editorial work and through continued attention to legal developments. His career spans more than five decades, reflecting sustained engagement in the profession rather than brief involvement.

Today he continues to practice in California, drawing on his years of courtroom and drafting experience. His practice concentrates on matters that benefit from his training in economics and his long experience as a legal writer. He remains active in representing clients and preparing written legal work in the state where he trained and has practiced.
