About William Christopher
William Christopher McGough built a foundation in business before turning to law. He graduated from Auburn University with a B.S. in Business Administration in 2001. He then earned his J.D. from Mississippi College School of Law, completing the degree in 2004. Those years set the stage for a career that crosses state lines and regulatory lines alike.
McGough took his first steps in private practice as an associate at Greene & Phillips, LLP in 2005. A year later he opened his own practice, operating as W. Chris McGough, LLC. He added a different dimension to his professional life in 2012 when he listed himself as owner and general contractor under the same company name. That blend of legal training and hands-on construction experience informs much of his work today.
He maintains active bar memberships in Alabama and Wisconsin, and he is admitted to practice before the Federal Circuit. His Alabama State Bar membership dates to 2005. He joined the Wisconsin State Bar in 2019. Locally, he has been part of the Richland County Bar Association and the Greater Richland Area Chamber of Commerce since 2020. Those memberships reflect a practice that spans both legal and community engagement.
Certifications complement his legal credentials. McGough is a licensed home builder in the State of Alabama. He also holds certification as a National Flood Insurance Program insurance adjuster through FEMA. That combination places him at the intersection of construction, insurance claims and legal counsel. It also gives him practical insight into the technical and regulatory aspects of building and post-loss procedures.
Clients and colleagues see a practitioner who has moved between roles over two decades. He began in firm practice, shifted to a sole practitioner model and added contractor duties that keep him close to the realities of construction work. He has handled matters across multiple jurisdictions and brought those experiences back to his office.
He practices through W. Chris McGough, LLC, where he blends legal representation with construction and insurance-related knowledge. His current practice focuses on construction-related work, insurance adjustment and related legal matters.
