About William A.
William A. Alexander graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1973 after completing a bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1967. Those years established the foundation for a long career in the courts of Illinois. His education placed him among a generation of lawyers who entered practice in the mid-1970s and helped shape local legal practice over ensuing decades.
Early in his career Alexander took on roles that brought him into regular contact with trial work. He held membership in the Franklin County Trial Lawyers Association from 1979 to 1980, an early signal of his involvement in courtroom matters. He later maintained memberships in the Franklin County Bar Association and in the bar of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. Those associations mark a professional life spent working in both county and federal forums.
Colleagues and court records show a steady practice rather than frequent publicity. Alexander has been part of the local legal community for many years. He has appeared in county courthouses and in federal proceedings in southern Illinois. His experience reflects the everyday demands of litigation: case preparation, courtroom advocacy, witness examination and the procedural work that precedes trial.
His professional affiliations indicate a practice anchored in litigation and courtroom representation. Membership in trial-oriented groups and admission to the Southern District’s bar provided him access to federal dockets as well as state matters. He has worked on civil disputes that required courtroom appearances and has engaged in the procedural aspects common to contested cases.
Alexander is connected to Sam C. Mitchell & Associates, where he conducts his practice. That office ties him to a local firm environment rather than to a large metropolitan practice. His work there has been consistent with the pacing of a county-based litigation practice, handling matters that arise in both Franklin County courts and in federal court when appropriate.
After more than four decades in or near the courtroom, he continues to serve clients through trial practice and related litigation work. He currently practices at Sam C. Mitchell & Associates, where his work centers on litigation in state and federal courts.
