About Ward K.
Ward K. Brown built his legal foundation at the University of Missouri–Columbia, where he completed undergraduate work in political science and later earned a law degree. He remained tied to the university’s law community as he began the transition from student to practitioner. Those early years set the size and scope of a career that would span trial courts and appellate benches.
Brown’s first role after law school was as a judicial law clerk for the Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri. The clerkship gave him direct exposure to courtroom procedure and judicial decision-making. He moved from the courthouse into private practice and, in 1988, became a partner at Craft, Fridkin & Rhyne. That stint sharpened his courtroom work and client-side skills in a busy regional practice.
In 2001 Brown joined Withers, Brant, Igoe & Mullennix, P.C. as a shareholder and director. He has continued there in a leadership capacity. Over decades in practice he has handled matters that reached federal appellate courts. He is admitted to practice in Missouri and has authority to appear before the Eighth, Ninth and Tenth U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions reflect work that extends beyond a single courtroom or county line.
Colleagues describe Brown as methodical in preparation and direct in argument. He has written briefs and argued appeals, and he has counseled clients through procedural hurdles at both trial and appellate levels. The mix of trial experience and appellate appearances shapes how he approaches a case: attention to record development early, clarity in legal framing, and careful preservation of issues for review.
Outside of courtrooms his resume shows long-term involvement in the legal community. He has held professional memberships and participated in local bar activities. He balances casework with firm management duties at Withers, Brant, Igoe & Mullennix, P.C., where he continues to practice. He handles litigation that proceeds through trial courts and, when necessary, to appellate tribunals, and he maintains an active practice at the firm.
