About Walter Richard

Walter Richard Larsen was born on November 18, 1934, in Williston, North Dakota. At the age of 16, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy with his father's permission and was honorably discharged in 1950. While stationed at Port Hueneme, California, he met Lorna, a Santa Barbara native, whom he later married. Together, they had three daughters. After his military service, Mr. Larsen pursued higher education at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History. He then worked for the California State Division of Workers’ Compensation in Santa Barbara, eventually advancing to a managerial position. While working full-time and raising his family, he attended night classes at Ventura College of Law, obtaining his Juris Doctor degree. In 1974, he was admitted to the California State Bar and began practicing law. Mr. Larsen established a solo law practice in Santa Barbara, specializing in Workers' Compensation and Social Security Disability cases. He was among the first attorneys in the area to focus on these fields. Throughout his career, he handled various stages of legal matters, including hearings, litigation, and negotiations. He was known for mentoring many attorneys interested in these areas of law and continued his practice until the age of 89. Beyond his professional life, Mr. Larsen had a passion for golf, playing regularly. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. He was also a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Santa Barbara and was actively involved in his community. Mr. Larsen passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025. He was predeceased by his wife, Lorna, and is survived by his three daughters, a granddaughter, and other family members. His contributions to the legal community and his dedication to his clients and family are remembered with respect.
