About Walter

Walter Jospin built a career at the intersection of corporate law and securities regulation. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974 and earned his J.D. from Emory University School of Law in 1979. Those credentials set the stage for work that moved between private practice and public service.

He spent a significant portion of his career in private law firms. In 1999 he became a partner at Paul Hastings, joining a firm known for complex corporate and transactional work. He handled matters that required navigating regulatory frameworks and advising corporate clients on compliance and governance. The practice there strengthened his familiarity with the rules that shape public companies and their advisers.

In 2015 he left private practice to serve as Director of the Atlanta Regional Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission. That role placed him in a senior management position inside a federal enforcement agency. He led regional staff, oversaw investigations and supervised enforcement activity tied to securities laws. The post deepened his firsthand experience of how regulators investigate misconduct and mount civil enforcement actions.

After several years at the SEC, he returned to private practice. In 2018 he joined Finch McCranie, LLP as a partner. At Finch McCranie he brought regulatory experience to a smaller firm setting. Colleagues and clients turn to him for practical counsel on disclosure, internal investigations and responses to regulator inquiries. His background allows him to advise both companies and individuals who face regulatory scrutiny.

He remains an active member of the State Bar of Georgia. He is licensed in Georgia and maintains a practice rooted in the Atlanta legal market. His career reflects long experience on both sides of the enforcement table: advising private clients and directing a regional office charged with enforcing federal securities laws.

His approach is straightforward. He translates complex regulatory regimes into practical steps for boards, executives and counsel. He draws on decades of courtroom, boardroom and agency experience to shape strategies that address investigations, disclosures and corporate governance challenges. His current practice at Finch McCranie, LLP centers on securities regulatory matters and corporate governance.
