About Walter
Walter Gabriel built a steady legal resume from classrooms in Baton Rouge to courtrooms in New Orleans and Atlanta. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, in 2006 and earned his Juris Doctor from Southern University Law Center in 2009. Those early years set the stage for a career that crosses public service, private firm practice and teaching.
Fresh out of law school, Gabriel joined Phelps Dunbar LLP as an associate in 2009. The role introduced him to firm life and litigation practice. A year later he moved into public service as an assistant district lawyer in the Orleans Parish District Lawyer's Office, where he handled matters that required steady courtroom work and an ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
In 2013 he launched the Law Office of Walter Gabriel. He has since operated his own practice, handling cases and managing the tasks that come with running a small firm. The move to solo practice gave him control over case selection and courtroom strategy. It also exposed him to the full cycle of representation, from intake through trial.
Gabriel has supplemented practice with teaching. In 2015 he served as an adjunct professor at Clark Atlanta University. That role allowed him to bring practical courtroom perspective into the classroom. Students benefited from an instructor who could explain legal concept through real-world examples rather than theory alone.
Professional associations have been part of Gabriel’s professional life. He joined the American Association for Justice and the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association in 2019 and maintains active memberships. He also earned a place on the National Trial Lawyers’ Top 40 Under 40 list, a peer-recognition program aimed at younger trial lawyers.
Those experiences shape how Gabriel approaches cases. He has worked on both sides of the aisle — in prosecution and private practice — which informs his courtroom strategy. He is comfortable in litigation settings and places value on preparation, witness handling and persuasive presentation to judges and juries. Colleagues describe him as practical and straightforward.
Gabriel is licensed to practice in Louisiana and Georgia. He runs the Law Office of Walter Gabriel and represents clients across those jurisdictions. He concentrates his practice at the Law Office of Walter Gabriel, representing clients in Louisiana and Georgia.
