About Virginia
Virginia Nelson built a career that crosses practice, teaching and bar leadership. She began her academic path at Colorado State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1975. She continued her legal studies at the University of San Diego School of Law and received her J.D. in 1979.
After law school, Nelson entered private practice. In 1986 she established the Law Offices of Virginia C. Nelson and has operated from that office since. Her name became familiar in San Diego legal circles not only through her practice but also through active participation in professional organizations.
Nelson served as president of the San Diego County Bar Association in 1989. That role placed her at the center of local bar governance and professional programming. She presided over association meetings and represented the organization in community and legal forums during her term.
Her ties to legal education continued decades after she graduated. In 2015 she returned to the University of San Diego School of Law as an adjunct professor. In that position she taught law students and brought practical courtroom and office experience into the classroom. Former students and colleagues have noted how her real-world perspective complemented the school’s academic offerings.
Over the years Nelson’s practice has combined the steady work of managing a small firm with participation in civic and professional life. She has balanced client matters, firm administration and occasional teaching. The record of leadership at the San Diego County Bar Association remains a prominent credential in her career timeline.
Today she continues to maintain her private practice at the Law Offices of Virginia C. Nelson. She concentrates on general private-practice matters at her firm.
