About Tyler
Tyler Larsen entered law school after completing a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and psychology. He finished his undergraduate studies at the University of South Dakota in 2015 and earned his J.D. from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 2018. The timeline reflects a straight path from undergraduate work into legal training.
He began gaining practical experience while still in school. In 2017 he worked as a summer associate at Gunvordahl and Gunvordahl. That early stint exposed him to firm practice and courtroom procedures at a formative stage of his training.
After law school, Larsen joined McClure & Hardy, Prof. L.L.C. as an associate in 2019. He spent time in both private practice and public service. In 2020 he served as a deputy state’s attorney in Yankton County. The role required regular courtroom appearances, case preparation and work on criminal dockets. His time in the county prosecutor’s office added direct trial experience to the courtroom work he had already begun to develop.
Larsen’s academic background in criminal justice and psychology informs how he approaches cases. He is comfortable handling the procedural and evidentiary issues that arise in criminal matters. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing files and practical in court. He balances written advocacy with in-person argument.
At the firm he handles a mix of matters that grow out of his prosecutorial experience. That includes client counseling, motion practice and representation in hearings. He also continues to do legal research and drafting, work that he first performed as a law student and that remains central to his practice today. The combination of public-sector prosecution and private-firm work gives him exposure to both sides of criminal litigation.
Larsen is licensed to practice in South Dakota. He maintains an active courtroom presence in county and circuit settings. He now practices at McClure & Hardy, Prof. L.L.C., where his work centers on criminal prosecutions and related matters.
