About Tyler D
Tyler D Helmond earned both his law degree and undergraduate degree from Indiana University Bloomington. He finished his B.S. in Labor Studies in 2002 and returned to the same campus to receive his J.D. in 2006. The academic path gave him a grounding in labor and policy issues before he moved into courtroom and appellate work.
Early in his career Helmond joined local and national bar organizations. He has been a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association since 2009 and joined the Indianapolis Bar Association Appellate Practice Section’s executive committee in 2012. He also holds memberships in the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Seventh Circuit Bar Association, and in 2013 he became a member of the National College for DUI Defense.
His admissions include the Indiana state bar and federal courts, as well as appearances in the Seventh and Sixth Circuits. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. Those credentials have allowed him to handle a range of appellate filings and to take cases to higher courts when trial outcomes are challenged.
Work over the years has covered criminal defense and appellate matters. Helmond has handled appeals, post-conviction petitions, and other contested issues that arise after trial. He frequently represents clients in appeals where procedural and constitutional questions are central. He has also represented clients in matters involving driving under the influence, drawing on his membership in the National College for DUI Defense and experience in state and federal practice.
Colleagues describe him as deliberate in his approach to briefs and oral argument. He pays attention to preserving issues at the trial stage, then frames them clearly on appeal. That methodical style informs how he prepares cases for the circuit courts and, when necessary, for the Supreme Court.
Helmond practices at Voyles Vaiana Lukemeyer Baldwin and Webb. There he continues to handle appellate litigation and criminal defense matters. He remains active in bar committees that deal with appellate practice and criminal defense, and he accepts cases that raise complex legal questions at the trial and appellate levels.
He currently practices at Voyles Vaiana Lukemeyer Baldwin and Webb, focusing on appellate work and criminal defense.
