About Trent

Trent Trani built his legal identity around study and practice of criminal law. He pursued advanced scholarship at the University of Colorado Law School, completing an S.J.D. in Criminal Law in 1999 after beginning graduate work in 1996. That doctoral work informs how he thinks about cases and the law.

Trani's career has spanned scholarship and courtroom work. Early on he combined research and practice, moving between academic analysis and client representation. Over the years he has taken on matters that require close attention to statutory detail, evidentiary rules and constitutional protection. His academic training has often framed his approach to litigation and appeals.

He is licensed to practice in Colorado. That admission has been the anchor for his professional life. He maintains current membership in professional associations that connect him to peers and to developments in criminal law, continuing the ties he formed during his years at the law school.

Clients and colleagues describe him as practical and precise. He favors clear legal writing and direct oral advocacy. Those habits grew out of sustained academic work on criminal law and later hardened in court hearings and briefs. He has handled trials, hearings and appellate filings, often addressing issues that flow from charges, evidence and procedure.

At the center of Trani’s work is an interest in the relationship between legal doctrine and real-world outcomes. His S.J.D. research required a long view of legal rules, and he brings that perspective to tactical decisions in litigation. He weighs risks and certainties in a way that aims to translate complex legal questions into choices clients can understand.

Trani runs the Trani Law Office. The practice has operated as a compact operation that offers individual attention to cases. He manages intake, strategy and court filings personally. That structure allows him to stay involved in each phase of a matter, from initial interviews to the final brief or hearing.

Outside the office he has remained engaged with ongoing legal education and the professional networks that sustain trial and appellate practice. He continues to write and speak in professional settings when the opportunity arises.

As of 2026 he is focused on criminal law matters in Colorado, combining his S.J.D. background with hands-on practice at the Trani Law Office.
