About Travis
Travis Marker trained across three countries before settling into a career that blends courtroom work and dispute resolution. He earned a Bachelor of Science in history and English from Weber State University in 1997, a Juris Doctor from Willamette University College of Law in 2003, and a Master of Laws in dispute resolution from Bond University School of Law in 2004. Those years of study set the stage for both trial work and mediated settlements.
His first public role in the field came as an extern for the Oregon Commission on Dispute Resolution in 2003. That placement exposed him to administrative processes and the mechanics of mediation early on. He launched Marker Law & Mediation in 2004 and began practicing as a lawyer and mediator while also taking roles in public defense.
From 2005 onward he served as a public defender in several Utah counties. He worked in Box Elder County beginning in 2005, moved to Weber County in 2007, and later joined the Washington County public defender's office in 2010. Those positions involved routine criminal defense across a wide docket. The work kept him in court, managing trials and plea negotiations, and informed his later practice as a mediator.
Marker has balanced private practice with other professional endeavors. In 2014 he became chair and CEO of The Scrivener's Quill, an organization that has allowed him to pursue editorial and administrative interests alongside legal work. Throughout his career he has continued to take cases and mediation matters through Marker Law & Mediation, the firm he founded.
Professional associations have been part of his professional life for two decades. He joined the J. Reuben Clark Law Society in 2002 and later took on leadership in its alternative dispute resolution section, serving as ADR section chair beginning in 2005. He also holds membership in the Parental Defense Alliance since 2005. These affiliations reflect ongoing engagement with defense practice and dispute resolution networks.
Marker is licensed to practice in Utah and Georgia. He splits his time between mediation engagements and defense work, handling cases that range from contested hearings to negotiated resolutions. He currently practices through Marker Law & Mediation, focusing on mediation services and criminal defense matters.
