About Trace
Trace Brooks built his practice on two things: an interest in how law shapes money and a methodical approach to complex rules. He came to law after study in the social sciences. That background still shapes how he asks questions and frames problems.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Georgia State University in 2011 and returned there for graduate work in anthropology, completing an M.A. in 2016. He also earned a J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law, listed as 2016, and later pursued an LL.M. in Taxation at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, completed in 2018. The sequence of degrees points to an unusual path: academic study of culture and systems followed by concentrated training in tax law.
Brooks began his legal career at Balch Law Group in 2016, where he worked as an associate attorney. He moved into the private sector practice of tax consulting at Ernst & Young in 2018. That role exposed him to large-scale tax planning for individuals and businesses and to the compliance requirements that shape transactional choices.
In 2021 he shifted into wealth management, joining Diversified Trust Company as a wealth strategist. The position combined technical tax knowledge with practical planning for high-net-worth clients and fiduciary considerations. A year later he launched his own practice. Since 2022 he has served as managing lawyer of Trace Brooks Law LLC, running the firm that carries his name and advising clients on tax-sensitive matters.
Brooks is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and has held that membership since 2016. He is licensed to practice in Georgia. His course of study and employment history suggest steady movement from traditional law firm work to tax consultancy, then into wealth planning and firm leadership. The transition reflects a narrower professional concentration rather than a broad general practice.
Colleagues describe him as someone who prefers document-driven legal work and client conversations that strip complex topics down to clear choices. He tends to take on matters that require careful tax analysis tied to financial planning decisions. He remains active in private practice and handles cases and advisory work for clients in Georgia. He currently focuses his practice on tax law and wealth planning.
