About Tom

Tom Nanney earned his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Los Angeles before building a practice concentrated on disputes that arise after someone dies or loses capacity. He moved from legal study into courtroom work and client counseling, learning early how probate matters blend litigation technique with delicate personal and family issues.

He is admitted to practice in California, Kansas and Missouri and holds current memberships in the state bars of each jurisdiction. That multi-state admission allows him to handle matters that cross state lines and to appear in the courts where estates and trusts are being probated.

Nanney is listed as a lawyer in the probate litigation group at RMO, LLP. His caseload typically involves estate and trust disputes, will contests and contested accountings. He also works on guardianship and conservatorship matters and on conflicts between fiduciaries and beneficiaries. Those areas require both procedural know-how and an ability to manage disputes that can be intensely personal.

In court he represents personal representatives, trustees and beneficiaries. His work includes contested hearings, settlement negotiations and trial preparation. He has guided clients through contested probate proceedings and alternative dispute resolution processes. He also advises fiduciaries on their duties to help avoid litigation when possible.

Outside the office he serves on the board of The Friends of Chamber Music Kansas City, a role that connects him to the city's arts community and to volunteer governance. He maintains active standing in the State Bar of California, the State Bar of Kansas and the State Bar of Missouri, and he participates in professional activities appropriate to litigation practice.

Colleagues describe Nanney as methodical and practical in his approach to disputed estates. Clients confront complex factual and emotional landscapes, and his work aims to steer those matters to lawful resolution while controlling litigation costs. He currently practices probate litigation at RMO, LLP.
