About Tom

Tom Croft combined an early career in engineering with a later entry into law. He earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Brigham Young University in 1986, followed by a Master of Science in the same field in 1987. Nearly two decades later he completed his legal education at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2005.

His technical training shaped his path into intellectual property law. After law school he joined Cooley Godward Kronish LLP as an associate in 2005. That role put him to work on patent prosecution and related matters for technology clients. Over time he added litigation and appellate work to his practice, moves that aligned with his registrations and court admissions.

Croft holds credentials that support both patent practice and federal litigation. He is admitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office and authorized to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court. He is also licensed in Colorado and admitted to practice in the Federal Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Those admissions reflect experience in filings across trial and appellate forums.

His technical degrees in electrical engineering inform the kinds of matters he takes on. Clients have brought him disputes and filings that involve electrical and electronic technologies. He has handled patent prosecution work, prepared patent applications, and participated in contested matters that moved into federal court and on appeal.

Colleagues describe him as steady and detail-oriented in document work and courtroom preparation. He is comfortable translating complex engineering concepts into legal arguments and into claim language. That skill set is useful both in drafting patents and in briefing technical issues for judges.

Today he is based at Darrow Mustafa PC. He continues to represent clients in patent prosecution, litigation, and appeals. His practice combines technical background and courtroom experience and often involves working across forums from the USPTO to federal district courts and appellate panels.

He handles matters for clients who seek prosecution and enforcement of electrical and technology patents and continues to pursue litigation and appellate work in the courts to which he is admitted.
