About Todd
Todd Stoneman trained first as a scientist and then as a lawyer. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Pre‑Medicine from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1996, then shifted direction and completed his J.D. at the University of Denver in 2009. Those years gave him a mix of analytical training and practical research experience that shaped his approach to legal problems.
While at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, he served as a research assistant in 2008 and spent time as a legal intern at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science that same year. Those roles put him inside legal research and institutional practice, exposing him to regulatory issues and client-facing matters early in his legal education.
After law school he moved quickly into practice. In 2010 he opened Stoneman Legal. He has since maintained office operations under that firm name and handled matters across multiple jurisdictions. He is admitted to practice in Wyoming, Colorado and Michigan and has developed his practice around bankruptcy and related consumer matters.
His work covers both consumer and business bankruptcy. He represents individuals in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 filings, assists small business owners considering Chapter 11 or other restructuring options, and handles creditor negotiations and discharge proceedings. He also handles the counseling and documentation necessary for clients to resolve debts and address collection efforts. His technical background informs how he reviews financial records and plans case strategy.
Stoneman has been active in professional communities that reflect his practice. He joined the American Bar Association and the Michigan Bar Association in 2009, became a member of the Colorado Bar Association and several of its bankruptcy and business subsections in 2011, and has belonged to the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers since 2019. He is also a member of the Better Business Bureau and the Bankruptcy Law Network. These memberships provide access to continuing education and peer discussion on bankruptcy developments.
Colleagues and clients describe his approach as methodical and direct. He emphasizes clear explanations of options and an orderly review of financial information. He does not take on work outside the areas he knows well, preferring to handle bankruptcy and related consumer financial matters.
He continues to operate Stoneman Legal and to represent clients in bankruptcy cases and debt resolution across the states where he is licensed.
