About Timothy Paul

Timothy Paul Burkhard completed his legal education at The University of Toledo College of Law, earning a J.D. in 2009. Before law school he studied at Western Michigan University, where he received a B.A. in political science with a minor in sociology in 2004. Those years shaped a practical approach to legal questions and a grounding in the institutions that often sit at the center of public disputes.

Burkhard began working in the legal field before finishing law school. In 2007 he served as a law clerk at Schlageter & Bryce, L.P.A., helping prepare documents and research for litigated matters. After earning his degree he joined Foster, Swift, Collins & Smith, P.C. as an associate in 2009. That early period gave him courtroom exposure and experience drafting pleadings, motions and client correspondence.

He is licensed to practice in Michigan and is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Those admissions allow him to appear in both state and federal forums. He is also an active member of the Oakland County Bar Association, a local organization that provides networking and continuing education for attorneys in the region.

Colleagues describe Burkhard as methodical and attentive to procedural detail. He tends to favor thorough preparation over flourish. That approach shows in the way he handles filing requirements, deadlines and client communications. He has worked on matters that required coordination between local counsel and federal practitioners, and he brings that experience to cases that cross jurisdictional lines.

Public information lists an office associated with Munson Healthcare. That connection situates some of his practice around institutional clients that require consistent legal counsel. Over time he has built familiarity with administrative processes and with the kinds of contracts and regulatory issues that arise for organizations operating in health care and related sectors.

Outside of the office he maintains ties to the legal community through bar association involvement and professional contacts developed during his time in private practice. He also continues to draw on his undergraduate studies in political science and sociology when assessing the broader context of legal disputes. His current practice work centers on matters brought in Michigan courts and in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
