About Timothy

A Libertyville native, Mr. Johnston graduated from Libertyville High School in 1997. His educational journey continued at Miami University of Ohio, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business with a major in Marketing in 2001. During his time at Miami, he was actively involved in student government and various civic groups, which laid the groundwork for his commitment to public service. This foundation propelled him to pursue a Juris Doctor at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. He participated in the Moot Court Honor Board and the Tenant Information Project, gaining valuable legal skills and experience. Before founding Johnston Tomei Lenczycki & Goldberg LLC, Mr. Johnston served as an Assistant State's Attorney at the Lake County State's Attorney's Office from 2005 to 2007.

This role provided him with extensive courtroom experience, where he handled numerous criminal cases, honing his litigation skills. Following his tenure at the State's Attorney's Office, he worked as an associate attorney at Harter & Schottland, PC. Matlin Law Group, P.C. These positions further enriched his legal expertise and prepared him for the challenges of co-founding his current firm. Mr. Johnston is deeply committed to community engagement. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Affordable Housing Corporation of Lake County, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving housing options throughout the county. His focus on housing issues extends to his current initiative, where he is exploring the formation of a non-profit aimed at rehabilitating abandoned homes.

This project seeks to stabilize housing values and eliminate neighborhood hazards—demonstrating his commitment to enhancing the quality of life in his community. Additionally, he is regularly appointed by judges to serve as a guardian ad litem in guardianship matters, further showcasing his dedication to advocacy. In his personal life, Mr. Johnston resides in Mundelein with his wife, Dr. Amanda R. Johnston, DVM. Together, they are raising their son, Merritt, alongside their pets. His interests are diverse; he enjoys gardening, maintaining aquariums, and engaging in outdoor activities such as bicycling, hiking, and canoeing.

An avid sports fan, he also supports the Chicago Cubs and coaches youth lacrosse, contributing to the development of young athletes in his community. Professionally, Mr. Johnston is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Lake County Bar Association. His affiliations extend to the American Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association, reflecting his commitment to ongoing professional development and networking within the legal community. Through his work and community involvement, Mr. Johnston continues to make a significant impact in both the legal field and the lives of those in Lake County.
