About Timothy James
Timothy James Prendergast earned his Juris Doctor from Pennsylvania State University’s Dickinson School of Law in 2003. He entered the bar shortly after finishing law school and established the foundation for a practice rooted in courtroom work and client representation across Pennsylvania.
He began his career as an associate at Asteak Law Offices in 2003. That early role offered steady exposure to litigation and day-to-day file management. It also provided a platform for trial work and client counseling, tasks he continued to undertake as his own practice developed.
In 2007 he opened the Law Office of Timothy Prendergast. That same year he also joined the Northampton County Public Defender’s Office. Balancing a private practice and a role in public defense gave him regular courtroom time. In the public defender position he handled criminal matters for clients who could not afford private counsel. The combination of public and private work deepened his experience in arraignments, pretrial motions, plea negotiations, and bench and jury trials.
Throughout his career he has worked in Pennsylvania courts. He practices the sort of trial advocacy that comes from repeated appearances at hearings and trials. That practical experience shapes how he prepares cases and advises clients. He has represented clients at various stages of criminal proceedings, often handling matters that require quick decisions under pressure and a readiness to argue both factual and legal points.
Colleagues and clients have noted his straightforward approach to casework. He emphasizes clear explanations of options and likely outcomes. In private practice he manages client files, drafts pleadings, and pursues case resolutions through negotiation or trial when necessary. He also draws on the procedural knowledge and courtroom habits developed during his time as a public defender.
Today he operates out of the Law Office of Timothy J. Prendergast in Pennsylvania. He continues to represent individuals in criminal matters and related court proceedings, focusing his practice on criminal defense in state courts.
